In a course at the University of Florida, students were assigned zip codes to find and cover unique stories. In doing so, we developed pitches for genuine staff meetings. and wrote on breaking news within a time frame of 1 to 2 hours.
Our professors were both faculty members and staff for the WUFT news outlet. The class took us into a real newsroom every week to work closely with one another and these talented professionals. As a result, my interview skills, ability to write under pressure and find reader-worthy stories were all drastically refined.
